Olhanense is the first team in the coaching career of Stoycho Mladenov. The team is from Algarve region. It is famous for being the first team to have won the Cup of Portugal , and not being from Porto or Lisbon. It is also reknown for hiring young coaches and players.Mladenov was 36 years old, a Bulgarian star in Portuguese football at the end of his career.

„I had two opportunities to continue – tells Mladenov–One was to continue as a player in Varzim and the other – as a coach in Olhanense. I think I made the right decision. I knew one day I would become a coach. I learnt from every one of my coaches. I watched a lot of matches on TV and analysed them. I even went to trainins of Benfica and Sporting .In Estoril I was lucky to play with one of the greatest names in Portuguese football – Fernando Santos – an impressive personality who made a career in Greece. I followed the work of Sven Goran Eriksson in Benfica and of Boby Robson in Sporting. At 36 years of age I think I made the right decision “
At the beginning of his career in 1993 he made a big mistake. He played in all trainings of Olhanense which he considers now not to have been right. I took Plamen Lipinski in my team as a conditional trainer. We had a hard time because Olhansense was fighting not to relegate. Management supported us and we made it and we finished second. In Portugal at that time there were three second divisions and only the teams on first place made it through.
Media started writing a lot about Olhanense and me. In our second year we played a little bit worse and ended fourth. In 1995 I was wanted from CSKA and a new step in my life began ..“
