At the end of the championship season Mladenov received an unexpected invitation. The Portuguese team of Belenenses offered Vasilev to be the coach and Mladenov to assist him. Ilia Pavlov however did not allow Vasilev to change the team .

Situation in the team was much more different than the one I expected. When I went the team started selling their best players due to financial issues. We had to make a team out of nothing. Our only options were players from second and third division. In our first matches we lost three times and made three draws. There was tension in the team .One day I had to make a harsh decision – to leave the team. My departure did not help the team and it got relegated at the end of the season.
